Have you ever tried to teach a class without turning your head? It may sound ridiculous, but that's what I did on my first day of school three years ago. It was my second year of teaching a college-level course, and just before my 9 a.m. class, I pulled a neck muscle, leaving me unable to turn my head to the right. So I spent the entire class period looking to my left and shifting my entire body just to see the students on the right side of the room.
It may not have been the funniest first day of school at the time, but thinking about it now cracks me up. I can't even imagine what my students were thinking!
Now that I've shared my ridiculous first-day-of-school story, it's your turn to do the same. But luckily for you, there's a prize involved. Just leave a comment sharing your funniest, wackiest, or most embarrassing first-day-of-school moment (as either a student or a teacher) before the end of the day on Friday. We'll choose one lucky commenter to receive a classroom kit full of loot your whole class will enjoy: robot stickers and tattoos, fun window clings, and a free poster (see below).
Ready, set, share! We want to hear your best first-day-of-school stories.
