Students can take ownership of their learning by exploring some of today’s most significant issues through organized, classroom-ready content. Customizable and flexible lessons support in person, virtual, or hybrid learning and inform instruction for all learners.

Adaptable, Flexible Instruction
Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, we empower teachers to configure course content by providing a variety of texts and topics that build towards an end-of-year group research project. Educators choose from units based around full-length novels, topics and themes, or create their own content using the provided tools.
Inquiry and Agency
Imagine Learning Odell High School Literacy emphasizes learning through inquiry. Students investigate significant ideas as they work collaboratively to construct meaning, capitalizing on their natural sense of discovery. They become better prepared for the demands of college, the needs of the workplace, and the rigors of a productive civic life.
Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Our program features a balance of texts and topics that are culturally responsive, looking at units that feature texts about various ethnicities, classes, races, disabilities, and genders. Within each unit, we present multiple perspectives and challenge students to empathize with their peers as they tackle difficult topics.
A Year-Long Project in Community-Based Learning
Our high school literacy core curriculum is designed around a year-long project in community-based learning. Students establish, build, and expand their learning community—forming a group that shares a common learning journey throughout the year.
Foundation Unit
- Begins each year

- Students establish norms and goals as members of learning communities
- Teachers get insight into students’ incoming skills
Developmental Units
- Learning Communities develop knowledge, habits
- Multi-genre collections feature anchor texts or topical text sets
- Students analyze texts to develop and understand perspectives
- Understanding is expressed via discussion, presentation, analysis, and writing
Application Unit
- Completes each year
- Inquiry-based research driven by student interest

Building bridges
Features designed to increase student engagement and agency are woven into the program: Book trailers highlight what students will be learning, and student spotlight conversations provide authentic, unscripted conversations from real students working through the materials.

ELL support
Our ELL toolkit supports English learners with over 150 targeted mini-lessons designed to develop the academic language skills needed to access core instruction, gain confidence in reading and other subjects, participate and engage with other students effectively.

The Literacy Toolbox provides graphic organizers, rubrics, checklists and reference guides, carefully designed to support student success throughout the units.
