Imagine Learning Foundation Announces 2025 Signature Grantees, Reaffirming $5 Million Commitment to Student Success

Seven nonprofits awarded $605,000 to address chronic absenteeism and student homelessness, as well as support students impacted by the California wildfires.

Tempe, Arizona — October 2, 2025 — The Imagine Learning Foundation (ILF), the philanthropic initiative of Imagine Learning, a leader in K–12 digital-first solutions designed for the future of learning, today announced its 2025 Signature Grant recipients. Seven organizations will receive a total of $605,000 to support critical initiatives addressing chronic absenteeism, student homelessness, and emergency relief for students and families affected by the California wildfires.

Since its launch in 2021, ILF has now awarded over $1.86 million through 40 grants as part of its initial $5 million funding commitment. Past recipient organizations have positively impacted more than 413,000 students and youth in 1,700 communities across the U.S., addressing issues from homelessness to mental health support.

The 2025 grant cycle continues ILF’s strategic focus on chronic absenteeism and student homelessness while expanding support to address the urgent needs of students and communities impacted by the devastating California wildfires. Nearly 28% of all students were chronically absent during the 2022–2023 school year; of those, 36% are economically disadvantaged and 48% are homeless, which creates significant barriers to academic success. Furthermore, almost 1.4 million public school students experienced homelessness, a 14% increase from the 2021–2022 school year, with many states reporting higher rates of student homelessness for the 2023–2024 school year.

“By investing in student well-being beyond academics, we can support individual children in need and strengthen entire communities,” said Jonathan Grayer, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Imagine Learning. “Through the Imagine Learning Foundation and our partnership with this year’s 2025 Signature Grant recipients, we’re addressing the barriers that prevent children from thriving as learners and as people — whether that’s chronic absenteeism, homelessness, or the devastating impact of natural disasters like the California wildfires. Every student deserves the stability necessary to thrive, and that’s exactly what these partnerships help us deliver.”

2025 Signature Grant Recipients

The 2025 grant awards represent a mix of continuing partnerships with proven organizations and new initiatives addressing emergency needs for over 300,000 youth. Four recipients are first-time grant recipients, and three organizations — Catie’s Closet, Erika’s Lighthouse, and SchoolHouse Connection + Attendance Works — are returning recipients that have made a significant impact with the foundation’s previous funding.

  • BackPack Brigade ($100k) will provide weekend hunger bags for at-risk children across five Washington school districts and 102 schools, serving over 5,000 students each week. The program offers eight different culturally appropriate menus adapted to meet the needs of individual students and will continue their demonstrated success in increasing student attendance, particularly on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Catie’s Closet ($100k) will support over 9,000 youth across Massachusetts and New Hampshire by expanding its Special Order System (SOS) program to address youth in direct need, including homelessness, foster care, fire victims, and abuse survivors. Youth receive emergency needs such as clothing and toiletries necessary to overcome chronic absenteeism, successfully stay in school, and increase their confidence to thrive in life.
  • City Year Los Angeles ($50k) will use its funding to support over 11,000 students in grades 3–9 through their Whole School Whole Child Program, which provides stability, academic support, and emotional care and individualized interventions for over 1,600 youth. The organization ensures students, families, and schools have resources and resilience to navigate the wildfire crisis.
  • Erika’s Lighthouse ($75k) will receive additional funding to nationally expand its Four Pillars model to over 1 million students in grades 4–12 by focusing on mental health support through classroom education, empowerment clubs, family engagement, and comprehensive staff training. Additional support will be directed towards Los Angeles students who have experienced mental health challenges and trauma from the LA wildfires.
  • Operation Warm ($100k) will provide new coats and shoes to over 2,000 Los Angeles children affected by the California wildfires, targeting vulnerable, displaced, and under-housed families to foster increased self-esteem, outdoor play, and school attendance.
  • SchoolHouse Connection + Attendance Works ($100k) will build on the accomplishments of its 2024 grant, implementing six key strategies to increase attendance for chronically absent students and students experiencing homelessness through customizable toolkits, national webinars, and strategy briefs for over 1,000 district administrators and state-level actors. As part of their project, they will collaborate with state and local education agencies, the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE), and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) to broaden the implementation of these strategies and improve attendance.
  • Sleep in Heavenly Peace ($80k) will hand-build and deliver high-quality wooden beds, mattresses, and bedding to bedless children, with a portion of the ILF grant focused on children affected by the LA wildfires. The organization aims to construct and deliver 5,100 beds to children in need through various chapters across the country, including Alabama, Arizona, California, and Texas.

“Our 2025 ILF Signature Grant recipients are working tirelessly to address the challenges our students face outside the classroom with creativity and compassion,” said Chris Graham, Chairman and President of the Imagine Learning Foundation. “These organizations restore hope and build confidence in every child they serve. When a student has a warm coat, a safe place to sleep, and knows they won’t be hungry over the weekend, they can focus on what matters most: learning and growing to their full potential.”

Imagine Learning Announces “The AI Question” — First Course in a New AI Learning Pathway

New courses are designed to help students build critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and durable skills in a world shaped by AI.

Tempe, Arizona — September 30, 2025Imagine Learning today announced the development of “The AI Question,” the first course in a structured pathway of AI-focused courses designed to help middle and high school students develop critical judgment, ethical reasoning, and collaborative problem-solving in an AI-driven world. Launching for Back to School 2026, the course reflects Imagine Learning Chief Product Officer Kinsey Rawe’s call for education to move beyond simply adapting AI to old models and instead use it to create new avenues for equity, agency, and durable skills.

“AI isn’t just changing the tools we use — it’s reshaping the very conditions of learning and work,” said Rawe. “The real risk isn’t moving too fast but rather moving too slowly for students who need access to these skills now. ‘The AI Question’ is the first step in a pathway designed to ensure every learner develops the critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and human connection that AI can never replace.”

Unlike courses that focus primarily on technical skills or tool training, “The AI Question” invites students to explore the systems behind AI and the human choices that shape them. Through real-world case studies, collaborative challenges, and open-ended inquiry, students will:

  • Examine how AI works and where it can fail
  • Analyze bias and ethics in machine learning
  • Imagine the future of work, creativity, and civic life in an AI era
  • Practice interpreting, questioning, and refining AI-generated outputs
  • Strengthen durable skills like critical thinking, empathy, and communication

The AI Learning Pathway is designed as a coherent sequence of courses. Beginning with “The AI Question,” it will expand into additional offerings on ethics, creativity, and the future of work, with each course building on the last to create a progressive learning journey.

“These courses aren’t about teaching students to use AI,” added Rawe. “They’re about preparing them to live in a world shaped by it: to ask better questions, make difficult choices, and lead with both intelligence and humanity.”

“The AI Question” will be available to schools nationwide for Back to School 2026. Find additional information at imaginelearning.com/AI-Pathway.

Imagine Learning’s AI-Powered Feedback in Imagine EdgeEX Speeds Teacher Response Times by 28%

Teachers using the tool return student writing nearly nine hours faster on average, giving students more timely and actionable feedback.

Tempe, Arizona – September 16, 2025 – Imagine Learning, the leading provider of digital-first PreK–12 solutions, today announced new findings on the impact of its AI-powered feedback capability in Imagine EdgeEX™, the company’s next-generation courseware platform for grades 9–12. Data from the 2024–25 school year show that educators using AI-powered feedback return assignments 28% faster on average than peers, reducing turnaround by nearly nine hours and ensuring students act on comments while their work is still fresh.

Launched for Back to School 2024, the capability reflects Imagine Learning’s Curriculum-Informed AI™ philosophy — AI purpose-built for education, grounded in research, aligned to high-quality instructional materials, and designed to support, not replace, teacher expertise.

Rapid adoption across classrooms

Since launch, AI-powered feedback has been used more than 57,000 times in 272 schools and 185 districts, with adoption strongest in English language arts and expanding into social studies, science, and math. Seventy-five percent of all short-writing comments in Imagine EdgeEX now include AI input, with usage peaking during high grading periods such as August, January, and June.

Clear benefits for teachers and students

Teachers using AI-powered feedback average 23 hours to return assignments, compared to 32 hours for non-users, and 1 in 8 assignments receive feedback in just one hour. Educators report that faster turnaround not only saves them valuable time but also increases the likelihood of student learning gains.

Teachers are also using the tool to create richer, multi-dimensional feedback. In spring 2025, 58% of teachers used AI-powered feedback. Of those teachers, 61% incorporated multiple AI-suggested comments into their responses, with nearly 18,000 instances drawing on two or more suggestions and some using as many as eight. The tool acts as a professional thought partner, helping teachers enhance the depth of feedback while keeping full control over what is shared.

A responsible approach to AI in education

“When 75% of teachers choose to incorporate AI suggestions into their feedback, they’re not being replaced, they’re being empowered, said Jason Fournier, VP of AI Initiatives at Imagine Learning. “Nine hours saved per assignment cycle means feedback arrives while the learning moment is still alive. That’s the difference between AI that disrupts and AI that delivers.”

Building on this success, Imagine Learning expanded AI-powered feedback to rubric-based essays in May 2025 and plans to extend support across its curricula. Each innovation follows the same guiding principles: grounded in pedagogy, shaped by teacher voice, and focused on measurable student outcomes.

Dragonfly Takes Flight: Imagine Learning Launches a Next-Generation K–5 Literacy Program That Brings Knowledge to Life

New core English Language Arts solution combines skills, knowledge, and dynamic media to prepare students for the future.

Tempe, Arizona — September 3, 2025 — Imagine Learning, the nation’s largest provider of digital K–12 curriculum solutions, today announced the launch of Dragonfly, a new K–5 English Language Arts program designed to put knowledge at the center of literacy instruction.

In today’s classrooms, the need for deep, connected knowledge has never been greater. Research shows that students become stronger readers when they build background and vocabulary across rich, meaningful topics. Dragonfly makes this possible by pairing the science of reading with authentic texts, explicit skills, and original media in a clear, consistent structure that makes high-quality instruction easier to deliver — and creates a literacy experience that builds skills and knowledge together, every single day.

“Our goal in creating Dragonfly was to design a curriculum that truly engages and challenges young learners — teaching reading in a way that sparks imagination and fuels curiosity about the world,” said Robert Romano, GM of Core Humanities at Imagine Learning. “Knowledge is the key to understanding. By blending skills instruction, authentic texts, and dynamic media, Dragonfly empowers students to make connections, think critically, and develop a deeper understanding of their world and their place in it.”

Why Knowledge Matters — Lift Off with Dragonfly

Too often, literacy instruction focuses only on discrete skills, leaving students without the background knowledge that fuels comprehension. Dragonfly changes that. Each module is rooted in content-rich topics that broaden students’ horizons while strengthening the reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills that unlock future learning.

With Dragonfly, teachers and students can expect:

For Teachers:

  • Ready-to-teach lessons with built-in modeling and knowledge-based instruction
  • A digital platform for planning, delivery, and progress monitoring
  • Seamless print and digital integration for classroom flexibility
  • Foundational skills options for whole-group, small-group, and independent learning

For Students:

  • Authentic texts and engaging knowledge-rich themes
  • Dynamic media like Discovery Point, Sound Safari, and WingsTV
  • Daily opportunities to read, write, speak, and collaborate around big ideas

“Every classroom is full of unique learners, and every teacher is balancing limited time with big expectations,” said Kinsey Rawe, EVP and Chief Product Officer at Imagine Learning. “Dragonfly was built to meet students where they are, providing the right support at the right time, and set them up with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in literacy, not just in school, but in life.”

A Literacy Program That Connects the Dots

Dragonfly’s Knowledge Building and Foundational Skills program unites phonics, fluency, comprehension, writing, speaking, and listening into one clear instruction arc — while ensuring every activity builds towards deeper understanding. With embedded assessments, tools for real-time differentiation, and consistent instructional routines, Dragonfly will inspire confidence in educators and give students purpose.

Imagine Learning Launches Imagine+ Assessment, a Unified K–12 Suite for Screening, Diagnostics, and Formatives

New system helps educators and school districts meet early literacy mandates, streamline data use, and personalize instruction

Tempe, AZ — July 9, 2025 — Imagine Learning, a leading provider of digital-first PreK–12 solutions, today announced the launch of Imagine+ Assessment, a comprehensive K–12 assessment suite that combines screening, diagnostic, and formative tools in one cohesive system. Built to address rising demands for early identification of learning delays and impediments, real-time instructional support, and reduced over-testing, the suite enables educators to act on data without disrupting learning.

The Imagine+ Assessment suite includes:

  • Imagine+ Screener (PreK–3) – A game-powered tool that identifies students at risk for dyslexia and reading challenges in under 20 minutes
  • Imagine+ Diagnostic (K–12) – A computer-adaptive assessment measuring student growth and instructional readiness in English language arts (ELA) and math
  • Imagine+ Formatives (K–8) – A library of nearly 1,000 brief, standards-aligned assessments for ongoing evaluation of student learning

“Educators aren’t asking for more assessments—they’re asking for better outcomes,” said Kinsey Rawe, Executive Vice President & Chief Product Officer at Imagine Learning. “Imagine+ Assessment gives them the timely, relevant data they need from a single system built for instruction, not just evaluation.”

The need is urgent. In 2024, 40 percent of fourth-grade students scored below the Basic level in reading—the highest percentage of struggling readers in more than 30 years, according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Districts face mounting pressure to identify gaps early and intervene before students fall further behind.

Assessment Designed for Classroom Realities
Imagine+ Assessment integrates directly with Imagine Learning instructional solutions such as Imagine Language & Literacy® and Imagine MyPath®, enabling personalized learning pathways from assessment results. It also complements a district’s existing assessment tools, allowing educators to strategically fill gaps and provide students with personalized support without overhauling their current infrastructure.

The suite’s robust data reporting supports decision-making at individual student, classroom, school, and district levels, and student diagnostics, classroom trends, and systemwide progress are all visible through one platform. Lexile® and Quantile® measures are included.

Meeting Pressing Needs Without Adding Burden
Imagine+ Assessment addresses several of today’s most critical instructional challenges:

  • Early Identification – Supports dyslexia mandates and MTSS frameworks by identifying reading risks before third grade
  • Instructional Efficiency – Reduces prep and grading time with built-in scoring, real-time dashboards, and intuitive, easy-to-interpret reports
  • Strategic Alignment – Helps unify fragmented assessment efforts under one cohesive platform
  • Equitable Personalization – Links insights to just-in-time instruction for students with diverse learning needs

The suite is now available nationwide and can be implemented independently or as part of a broader Imagine Learning solution.
