Imagine Math and Charter School Students
Charter schools in Florida provided Imagine Math for approximately 24,180 students in grades 3–8 during the 2017–18 academic school year.
Recently, Imagine Learning conducted an analysis of the impact that Imagine Math had on student outcomes in math utilizing the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) and the Northwest Evaluation Association’s Measures of Academic Progress (NWEA MAP) assessment data provided by the charter schools and usage data from Imagine Learning.
The following information is a summary of the findings from Imagine Learning’s analyses.
NWEA MAP Key Findings:
- Students in grades 3–8 who used the Imagine Math program with fidelity (recommended usage) achieved greater NWEA MAP Math RIT score growth.
- Students in grades 3–8 who used the Imagine Math program with fidelity achieved greater NWEA MAP conditional growth percentiles (percentile rank for growth; fall to spring).
- The more Imagine Math lessons students passed, the greater NWEA MAP Math RIT score growth they achieved.
FSA Key Findings:
- Students in grades 4–8 who used Imagine Math with fidelity achieved greater FSA Math scaled score growth (as compared to 2016–17 scores).
- Students in grades 6–8 achieved greater end-of-course (EOC) Algebra 1 and Geometry scaled scores when they used the Imagine Math program with fidelity.
- The more Imagine Math lessons students passed, the higher FSA Math scaled score growth they achieved.
Conclusion: Using Imagine Math Can Improve Students’ Scores on Math Assessments
The results of these analyses demonstrate that students in grades 3–8 using Imagine Math showed, on average, larger FSA and NWEA Math MAP growth.
Given these findings, other schools that implement the Imagine Math program with fidelity could expect similar successful outcomes.
